Argh! Last minute drama as I discover that one of the privacy-modifying plugins that I selected for use doesn’t actually work properly on all Posts/Pages on this version of WPMU.

The installer is almost completely automated now, and works like a charm (for me anyway!). It automatically configures pretty much everything so that you’re running out of the box with the appropriate plugins/themes activated and configured. Could use some checking to see if the defaults make sense. Cookie integration will also need to be confirmed on a “real domain”.

We should see if we can’t send diffs back to folks afterwards, if it’s worth it.

Definitely – I’d need to do a little more work to make some of them “dual-compatible”, since some of the fixes I’ve applied have just been a blunt conversion to WPMU rather than conditional support.

Cleaning up all sorts of warnings, errors and brokenness in these plugins (since most of them are written for WP, not WPMU :( )

OMG my half-automated installation script is working! If you follow these steps: http://wpshowdown.wordpress.com/implementation/installing-from-svn/ you should be able to get set up with a fully integrated and configured WPMU + bbPress + plugins without too much hassle. Needs some cleaning up, but it works.

Rock on – I have a new blog activation plugin going now which automatically sets up new blogs created on the WPMU installation and activates/configures all the plugins etc. Now back to work on the install process for the main site/whole thing.

Just finished (completely untested) activation script for when new blogs are created, and also the framework of an installer for the first time you set this all up (for the “Home” blog). Basically it just triggers activation and sets defaults for plugins at the moment.

Made a bunch of progress today on a test installation here on my machine. Got all the mu-plugins compatible stuff working, and most of the normal plugins as well. Probably still spend some more time later tonight. Making some Implementation Notes (see Page) as I go to keep track of things so it’s easier to reproduce etc. Have had to modify quite a few plugins unfortunately, but we can look at submitting patches back to their authors once we’re done perhaps :)

Talked to Andy Peatling about the new “Site Wide Plugin” support he’s written for WPMU, but I think it’s going to work better to handle auto-activation of plugins (and configuration via direct option setting in DB) via a custom script in mu-plugins.

Passing out for now. Got 95% of the work done reviewing plugins for WPMU. Need to check out PollDaddy/WP-Polls tomorrow, and then check out some bbPress ones (although not many to worry about there). Once that’s done, I can start integration of WPMU/bbPress and installing/configuring everything if we have a server?

Also got some notes out on theme edits required for each plugin, and general theme functionality that needs to be (or would be nice to) supported. See list on right.

PollDaddy doesn’t work on 2.7! Definitely not on WPMU, and the bugs seem non-WPMU-related. WP-Polls it is.
